Open RAN, one more step towards interoperability

The arrival of 5G leads telecommunications operators to upgrade their infrastructures with new hardware and software to support this technology.

To make the process of network transformation more agile and flexible, four of the largest telecommunications companies in Europe (Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Orange) joined efforts to accelerate Open RAN's launch on mobile networks.

Open RAN stands for "Open Radio Access Network" that standardizes the infrastructure's hardware and software design, which means an open, virtualized, and fully interoperable solution, allowing operators to not depend on third parties.

The Open RAN implementation will allow operators to launch new technologies into the market more quickly and efficiently, with lower prices, benefiting consumers and companies across Europe.

We are already working with some telecommunications companies in Portugal to implement Open RAN in the national territory in the future.
