Eurico Ferreira South Africa in Joint Venture with Edison Power Group was recently awarded by Eskom for the implementation of a pilot project of a 1000 kV HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) Transmission Line in Apollo Substation, Midrand.
Apollo Substation is one of the most important Eskom’s substations in South Africa, among other sources, it receives (through two 800 kV HVDC lines) most of the electricity produced in Hydroelectric Dam of Cahora Bassa (HCB), in Mozambique.
This pilot project is forecasted to last 6 months, being expected the completion and delivery to Eskom by the end of June 2018.
Electricity transmission, to power major energy consumption hubs and enable connectivity with neighbouring countries, is usually carried out through HVDC lines to avoid losses of energy derived from the long distance between the power plants and the consumption demand centers.
Therefore, this specific project of a HVDC Line, opens new opportunities for Eurico Ferreira South Africa and Proef Group in both South Africa and neighbour countries, following Proef Group strategy of diversification of its Portfolio of Services and Clients.
